Vasse Estate teamed up with local business Vasse Automotive to host an engaging car maintenance workshop titled “Get a Grip: Maintenance for Your First Car.” The workshop was designed to teach young drivers practical skills to help them stay safe on the roads. During the session, participants received guidance on checking oil and fluid levels, changing a tyre, and responding effectively to common roadside issues.
Led by Franz and Natasha Jooste of Vasse Automotive, the workshop highlighted the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, particularly for young drivers using older cars, which often require more attention. Natasha explained, “We believe it’s essential for young drivers to have a basic understanding of their vehicle’s needs and to feel confident in addressing common issues.”
Participants were able to gain hands-on experience, practising how to change a tyre and learning crucial safety steps to take in the event of a breakdown. The session was well-received by attendees, with many commenting on the value of learning these skills in a supportive environment.

Michelle Baker, Community Development Officer at Vasse Estate, stated,
“We’re excited to continue providing opportunities that educate and empower our youth. This workshop helps ensure young drivers are equipped to handle car maintenance, which is key to keeping them safe and reducing stress on the road.”
