Western Power recently opened their new $10 million depot in the Vasse Business Park. This should bring improved servicing to not only Vasse, but the entire SW.
The depot is a servicing base from which Western Power crew will complete all maintenance and network upgrades to the SW region. Last financial year, that included over $9 million worth of work.
Why Vasse?
Previously Western Power operated from two facilities in Margaret River and Busselton. However, the new Vasse depot enables them to deliver cost savings and more efficient services within the SW. This is due in part to the excellent access to multiple towns provided by Vasse. “Moving South West operations to a single site allows us to achieve ongoing operational efficiencies and cost savings for the works we conduct in the area” said Dave Fyfe, Western Power Executive Manager Asset Operations.
Watch this video where Mr Fyfe explains how Western Power wanted to build in one of the fastest growing parts of the State.
About the Western Power Depot
This is their first purpose-built depot for almost 30 years. It has been designed with a priority on safety and efficiency for both crews and the community. The design has been created so “that everything we do for the customer is done smoothly, with less disruption” said Mr Fyfe.
The Western Power Depot covers nearly two hectares of land in the Vasse Business Park. It includes covered parking for the vehicle fleet, which assists the work crews to load and prepare equipment in a protected area before heading to field.
“We are a 24/7 business and our crews respond to incidents in all weather conditions. It is important from a safety and response perspective that our crews are able to load and prepare equipment in protected areas before heading to the field,” Mr Fyfe said.
Creating a name that connected to the local custodians of the land, the Wardandi people, we important. So the Vasse Depot has been named Mulgarup/Balbarignup, meaning ‘thunder and lightning’.
