History began in Vasse thousands of years ago

History began in Vasse thousands of years ago with the Wadandi people who lived in this lush pocket of the South West. The farming pioneers arrived in the area in 1841, cultivating the land for early settler use.

Formerly named Newtown, Vasse was christened in honour of the Vasse River and Vasse Estuary. These names were given after the French seaman, Timothee Thomas Vasse, who disappeared in the area in June 1801, during explorer Nicolas Baudin’s expedition.

A Sustainable Future

As important as it is to honour our past, it is vital we plan for the future. Vasse has been built as a sustainable community, designed with energy efficiency in mind and uses materials sourced from the local area.
